A major part of this course has been taught very successfully at A level in the department for over 10 years. Furthermore, students will already have developed a foundation of knowledge from their Year 9 study of the Nazis and their Year 11 study of Germany and Berlin as part of their ‘Superpower Relations’ course. Issues and content includes:
How did Hitler and the Nazis establish power in Germany?
How did they transform German society? (for example, youth, education, women, racial purity and anti-Semitism)
Impact of Communism and Western democracy on East and West Germany after 1945.
Exams and assessment: Sources paper: 2 questions in 90 minutes; Weighting: AS -50%; A level 25%
