Unit F961: British history period study
This period has been taught at AS level for over 20 years in the department. Although at first a little unfamiliar compared to more modern topics, students have consistently achieved strong results and enjoyed studying Britain at a time of dramatic change and upheaval. Issues and content includes:
- How did William Pitt (who came to power aged 24, the youngest ever Prime Minister) manage to dominate politics?
- The impact of the French Revolution and the threat of revolution from British radicals.
- The impact of the Napoleonic Wars.
- Pressures for change and reform, for example parliamentary reform.
Exams and assessment: Write 2 essays (from a choice of 3) in 90 minutes. Weighting: AS -50%; 25% A level.
