At St Ivo we are proud to be a comprehensive school, serving the needs of our local area.
Education has always been important but it has never been as important as it is today.
That is why our vision is to provide an outstanding education that enables our learners to fulfil their potential. Our vision is captured in our strapline: ‘Fulfilling Potential!’ We are very serious about doing everything we can to ensure that all of our students achieve great things.
We believe that outstanding behaviour is the best foundation for outstanding learning; nothing less will do.
We also believe that school is about more than passing examinations! That is why we run many clubs and activities, and dozens of trips, which help our young people have a range of experiences, as well as enjoying themselves!
I hope you find this website useful and interesting. Should you require further information about the school, please do not hesitate to contact us.
St Ivo School is proud to have been presented with a number of national awards:
INTERNATIONAL SCHOOLS AWARD - over the last four years the geography department has been working towards securing the full International Schools Award as part of a whole school initiative. It is a scheme organised by the British Council and requires schools to audit and celebrate their international work across all departments. The full award was gained in October 2012 in recognition of work carried out with schools overseas such as the geography dept bi-ennial visit to a primary school in Soweto and their 'Japan Week'. Similarly, the work of the RE dept is acknowledged with their link with a school in Pakistan, their Holocaust Day and visit to Auschwitz , the Modern Languages dept celebration of European Lanuages Day & theatre visits as well as the history department's annual visit to the Somme each November. These are just some of the international projects that St Ivo are involved in and reflect the British Council's ethos of promoting international understanding and breaking down cultural stereotypes. |
SECONDARY GEOGRAPHY QUALITY MARK (SGQM) (Geographical Association) - awarded to St Ivo School in 2014 by the Geographical Association. The award process encourages and supports schools to reflect on their work and strive for the highest quality in their teaching. In order to achieve the award the geography department underwent a rigorous moderation process and the team of assessors were hugely impressed by the manner in which they are continuing to embrace new and innovative approaches to teaching geography. The award recognises student attainment, progress and achievement in areas such as geographical knowledge, understanding, values, skills and concepts and sets expectations about the quality of teaching in geography. |

PRINCES TEACHING INSTITUTE MARK 2014 & 2015 - further to the above success the Geography Department has been working as part of the Princes Teaching Institute (PTI) Schools Programme, first launched by the PTI in 2007 to recognise and reward school departments that develop inspiration ideas and activities which enhance the teaching in a number of subject areas, regardless of pupils' background or abilities. In recognition of the work done, the Geography Department at St Ivo, first received the PTI mark in 2014. They are delighted to have been awarded the Prince's Teaching Institute Mark again in 2015. To become members and work towards the PTI Mark, the Geography Department have had to demonstrate that they have increased the challenge within the subject curriculum; developed their staff's own specialist subject knowledge; developed subject-based links outside school; and enthused students through subject activities beyond the curriculum. The Mark is in recognition of the department's achievements and new initiatives inspired by membership of the Schools Programme. |

ARTSMARK SILVER AWARD - This is a prestigious award that aims to recognise the high quality work done in departments such as dance, drama, music and art. Artsmark schools are committed to giving young people a wide range of arts experiences both in the classroom and in after-school clubs, and to provide visits or partnerships with artists and arts organisations. As a school we are very proud of this achievement, as confirmation of designation recognises the high profile that these departments have in the school and the contribution they make to the school as a whole. |
EUROPEAN AWARD FOR LANGUAGES 2006 WINNER - This award recognises creative ways to improve the quality of language teaching, motivate students and make the best of available resources. Award-winning projects provide a potential source of inspiration for others, in different languages, contexts and even different countries, and have an international dimension. St Ivo School has received this award as part of our participation in the Junior CULP - Cambridge University Language Programme, which enables students to learn a new language through intensive all day and twilight sessions, which are held at either the university or school. |

“Thank you for providing such a safe and secure place at St Ivo School. Our son is extremely happy at school and enjoys all aspects of school life. That is very important to us as parents.”
“As a parent of a year 7 pupil, this was our first experience of a St Ivo production. I took my family along to see the production tonight and it was fantastic. I can only guess how much preparation from staff and students went into this production, it was a truly enjoyable evening and an extremely professional show.”
“Love the timetable of trips through the year, far better than anticipated and added bonus that I can add up cost of each child over the year. So thank you and I think it makes an excellent addition to the website.”
“The cabin crew of Virgin Atlantic praised our students for their immaculate behaviour on a trip to Los Angeles”

“The Top Ten award is an inspired initiative, and the pride and happiness which were evident on all the children’s (and indeed parent’s) faces was a joy to see.”
“The encouragement and support from St Ivo teachers, TAs and SEN department has been really appreciated by us as parents, particularly in how things have been adapted to the varying scenarios of our daughter’s complex condition through the years. We are certain being at St Ivo has been a major part in her becoming the confident, competent, articulate and simply nice person she is now.”
“I just wanted to write and say thank you for the wonderful education my son has received at St Ivo. I am sure you are already aware what talented, committed and supportive staff you have, but it’s always nice to have an unsolicited testimonial!”
“The need for a balance between “carrot and stick” with liberal application of humour and encouragement on all sides proved to be a good formula! The end results that both of our children have received this summer are testament to both their hard work and the investment that the school has made in them. However, the “output” from school should not just be measured in academic success and our children’s social and personal development has also benefited from such a positive environment as well.”
