Years 7 - 9

In Key Stage 3 pupils take part in one PE lesson and one Games lesson per week. Games lessons take place in single sex groups, whilst PE lessons are done in mixed gender groups (as a form in years 7 and 8).

Programme of Study for Years 7-9

Year 7

Boys: Rugby, Football, Swimming, Tennis and Basketball
Girls: Netball, Swimming (two blocks), Hockey and Tennis
Mixed PE: Gymnastics, Indoor Athletics, Short Tennis, Athletics and Rounders

Year 8

Boys: Rugby, Football, Swimming, Tennis and Athletics
Girls: Hockey, Swimming, Netball, Athletics and Tennis
Mixed PE: Badminton, Outdoor and Adventurous Activities, Gymnastics, Cricket and Rounders

Year 9

Boys: Rugby, Football, Swimming and Summer Options
Girls: Hockey, Netball, Football, Cheerleading/Rugby and Summer Options


Key Stage 4

Core PE – Programme of Study

In Year 10 pupils have three PE lessons over two weeks and in Year 11 one lesson per week. These lessons are mostly single sex, but are sometimes mixed depending on the activity.

Pupils have the opportunity to follow a range of activities including netball, hockey, football, rugby, rounders, cricket, tennis, trampolining, badminton, dodgeball, basketball, aerobics and table tennis.

GCSE PE

In GCSE PE students follow four units:
B451 – Introduction to PE
B452 – Practical Performance & Analysis 1
B453 – Developing Knowledge in PE
B454 – Practical Performance and Analysis 2

This involves assessment in 4 practical activities, two written exams in Year11 and two controlled assessments.

Vocational Sport

R053 Sports Leadership
R054 Sport and the Media

Unit R051 contemporary issues in sport is an exam in Year 11.
